Health Careers Summer Institute (HCSI)

Jumpstart your journey to a career in healthcare

The Health Careers Summer Institute is a two-course program (Medical Terminology, Introduction to Health Careers with CPR training) that is open to high school juniors and seniors who have taken biology and want to attend DVC during the summer for college credit.

This six-week program introduces students to healthcare and healthcare careers through lecture, laboratory, and fieldwork experiences. These activities allow students to explore their healthcare specialty of interest while offering them a foundational understanding of healthcare systems, processes, culture, ethics, and integrated professions.

HCSI students have the rare opportunity to visit local healthcare facilities and encounter patient-centered experiences firsthand. Course content is thoughtfully chosen and introduced to replicate trending healthcare practices and current standards so as to prepare students to excel in educational tracts and professional environments specific to healthcare.

Patient care experience is as valuable as the biology behind the medical treatments. These courses are intended to develop students to become future healthcare leaders who will deliver excellent patient care as well as quality industry outcomes.
