Assessment Policies

You should complete the Online Orientation before taking an assessment. Ask staff for more information.

DVC assessments are only for students with a current application on file. We will not test students who plan on attending another school.

Student Academic Integrity

Anyone found cheating, or presumed to be cheating, will have all testing materials confiscated, and will be referred to a conduct officer for disciplinary action which could include permanent loss of privileges and access to the Assessment Center.

Disability Support Services (DSS) students

If you require extra time or other accommodations for a disability, please register with DVC’s Disability Support Services office before scheduling an assessment (Student Services Center, room 248, phone: 925-969-2185).

During the Assessment

  • You may not leave until the completion of the assessment. Bathroom breaks are not permitted. Once you begin an assessment it will count as having been taken.
  • All electronics must be turned off and put away. Headphones must also be removed. Only scratch paper, pencil and student ID are allowed on the desk.
  • No personal calculators may be used on the math assessment. However, you may use the on-screen calculator when provided during the assessment.
  • No other websites or computer applications may be accessed during the assessment. Hoods or hats that covers your ears must be removed.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the assessment room.

After the Assessment

  • Please bring all scratch paper and personal belongings with you when exiting the room.
  • Placement results are usually available on the same day. Please be sure to click “print” for your results page before leaving the assessment room. Placement(s) will be posted to your student account within 48 business hours. The College and Assessment Center does not release scores or placements to other persons, agencies, or institutions.
  • The College and Assessment Center does not reprint placements or release scores to students.

Retest Policies

  • College Level Math, English and ESL assessments may be taken  twice during the first testing semester, with at least seven days in between ass essments , and  once per semester thereafter.
  • Chemistry assessment may be taken only once per semester.
  • The online ISSA assessment may be taken as many times as needed. The ISSA assessment may be taken at home or at the Enrollment Lab.
    • Please note:  The ISSA is only used for clearance into math courses.  It cannot be used to clear prerequisites for other disciplines.
  • Assessment placements are valid for two years from the date of assessment

    (Please Note: The spring and summer semesters are counted as one whole semeste r).
