General information for College for Kids

Parent orientation

Parent orientations are offered for the College for Kids program at the Pleasant Hill campus due to the size of the campus and logistics.  Two orientations are offered: May 20th or June 3rd, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  The same information is presented - only register for one of the dates, not both. Both parents and students must pre-register.  Registration opens on April 10th at www.dvc.edu/college4kids.

For San Ramon, parents will receive information via email regarding procedures for that campus prior to the first day.

All parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves and their child with the campus where their child will be attending prior to the first day of class.

About our faculty

College for Kids has chosen its faculty carefully to insure subject matter expertise and skill in working with young people. Many were referred by teachers and administrators in local schools or DVC faculty. In fact, some of our instructors are Diablo Valley College faculty members or students. All have had practical experience with subjects they teach and teaching experience.

Note: All College for Kids staff members (instructors and aides) are fingerprinted and cleared through the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as the Department of Justice .

Dates for College for Kids Summer 2017

Classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. A student can sign up for one, two or three classes each week, but classes must be consecutively scheduled. A student may not sign up for 1st and 3rd periods only.  College for Kids does not provide supervision outside of class time.

Note: Classes begin and end on different weeks throughout our summer from June 20 - July 27 (no classes on July 4).  When planning your child's summer schedule, please pay close attention to dates, times and fees, as there have been changes since last summer.

Transportation, parking, pick-up and drop-off information:

Parents are entirely responsible for students' transportation.  College for Kids is not responsible for citations served by DVC Police Services.

Pleasant Hill Campus

  • Drop off and pick up is limited to lots 1 and 3 on the Pleasant Hill Campus. Staff members will be at those locations before and after each period to ensure the safety of every student as they arrive and depart. Please keep in mind that College for Kids is not responsible for students who are dropped off and/or picked up in other lots.  It is not required that you park your car in a parking space. We have coordinated with Police Services to allow a drive-thru procedure.  For the safety of kids and other pedestrians, please follow the directions from CFK staff to avoid injury.  Remember kids will be in the parking lots getting to and from class and they can be difficult to see from behind the wheel of your car.
  • Parents please check back regularly on our web site for updates on parking procedures at the Pleasant Hill campus.

San Ramon Campus

  • The San Ramon campus is located in the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon at 1690 Watermill Road. The drop off and pick up location is in the parking lot behind campus. Please keep in mind that College for Kids does not supervise students who are dropped off and/or picked up on the San Ramon campus. Parking permits are not required at this time.

Pick up

Pleasant Hill Campus

Parents are expected to pick up their children no later than 15 minutes after their last class. The College for Kids office closes at 4:30pm. Students left unattended will be escorted to Police Services in LOT 1. For safety reasons, students left unattended more than once will be subject to removal from the program.  If there is an unexpected emergency which will delay pick-up, please call the College for Kids office at 925-969-4600 or the Campus Police at 925-969-2785. Your child will be notified and will be waiting for you at Campus Police Services.

San Ramon Campus

If there is an unexpected emergency which will delay pick up, please call the College for Kids office at (925) 969-4600.

Attendance and unforeseen circumstances

Please report any absences to the College for Kids office as soon as possible by emailing CommunityEd@dvc.edu or calling (925) 969-4600 (you can leave a voicemail).  Unannounced absences will result in CFK staff following up with parents/guardians.

Parents who must pick their child up early for any reason must sign them out at the office (L-146). No excuses! Please call the office in advance, so a staff member can have your child ready for you.  This is to avoid disrupting classes.  We want our instructors to be able to focus on teaching and not handling administrative tasks.

All policies and procedures subject to change without notification.  Please check back regularly for the latest information.
